Metal is a genre the developed in the 1960's and 1970's in England and America, developing from Blues-Rocks but turning it into a thick and heavy sound with a lot of distortion turned up on amplifiers and lots of long and complicated Guitar solos and almost all drumming done with double bass pedals.

The fashion styles of metalheads (term for people like metal) is usually black and metal spikes, many tattoos and piercings. They have long hair so that they can head bang.

Alternative rock came along during the 1980's and only really became famous in the 1990's. It was mostly all done on Independent record label until the 1990's because along came Nirvana with they're sub-genre of alternative.... Grunge.This genre became very popular in Manchester, England in 1990's.
In the USA they referred to alternative as college rock in the 1980's because it was constantly played on college radio stations. Alternative was directly connected to the Punk Scene, taking influence from British Punk bands like The Sex Pistols and The Clash

Celtic Punk is a Sub genre of Punk which combines Punk Rock and Traditional Celtic Irish music. The Genre arose in the 1980's in the London Underground Punk Scene with the band "The Pogues", they started the band to celebrate their Irish culture and play they're kind of music.
Celtic Punk band often cover old Traditional Irish Songs, examples are Flogging Molly Covered "Whats Left of the Flag" and Dropkick Murphys covered "Fields of Athenry". These songs are often more uptempo then the original versions and may have different lyrics slipped in.
The Main Themes of Celtic Punk are "the Irish diaspora, drinking, and working class pride. It is also used very often to spread political views.
The types of instruments used are Drums, Guitar and Bass, but along with that they use Acoustic Guitars, Violins, Banjo's, Acordians, Tin Wistle and fiddels. This style is very similar to Folk Punk.
