Celtic Punk

Celtic Punk is a Sub genre of Punk which combines Punk Rock and Traditional Celtic Irish music. The Genre arose in the 1980's in the London Underground Punk Scene with the band "The Pogues", they started the band to celebrate their Irish culture and play they're kind of music.


Celtic Punk band often cover old Traditional Irish Songs, examples are Flogging Molly Covered "Whats Left of the Flag" and Dropkick Murphys covered "Fields of Athenry". These songs are often more uptempo then the original versions and may have different lyrics slipped in.

The Main Themes of Celtic Punk are "the Irish diaspora, drinking, and working class pride. It is also used very often to spread political views.

The types of instruments used are Drums, Guitar and Bass, but along with that they use Acoustic Guitars, Violins, Banjo's, Acordians, Tin Wistle and fiddels. This style is very similar to Folk Punk.

Famous Celtic Punk Bands Include "Flogging Molly" from Los Angeles and Dublin, "Dropkick Murphys from Boston, Massachusetts, "For Blood and Wiskey" from Kildare, Ireland and "The Real Mckenzies" from Vancouver
